Once again, we're bringing you a little bit closer to the team involved in putting StreamAMG at the forefront of the sports streaming industry.
Today we chat with Benjamin Pearson, technical operator at StreamAMG and talented cricketer.
Find out which Aussie legend is Benjamin’s sporting hero and what he thinks is in store for the future of OTT.
Describe your role at StreamAMG
Technical Operator on live sporting events. I’m responsible for setting up and monitoring live streams for clients, ensuring the quality is correct and quickly responding on a matchday should any issues arise externally or internally.
What's your favourite sport to watch?
That’s got to be football, for my sins! Having a season ticket at Leeds United since I was 6-year-old comes with the guarantee of many ups and downs.
What's your favourite sport to play and why?
Cricket. From beginning at age 5, to playing in international accredited venues, the sport has brought me so many amazing memories and life-long friends around the world.
Who is your favourite sportsperson?
Ricky Ponting. His record batting at 3 in all formats of the game speaks for itself and he was the captain of that incredibly successful Australia side. He was the player you always wanted to get out early doors.
Favourite sporting moment?
There are two moments that stick out for me. Being at Old Trafford on January 3rd, 2010 when Leeds turned over Manchester United in the FA Cup with 9,000 other away fans was epic. Even though we could not be there due to COVID, promotion back to the Premier League was an incredible feeling after the years of many ups and downs.
Favourite thing about your job?
The people. Being surrounded by like-minded people in the sport industry is fantastic, apart from all the Manchester United fans in the office. Sport is also constantly on the screens in the office so that is a pretty good perk!
What three words would you use to describe StreamAMG?
Collaborative, Innovative & Welcoming.
Favourite StreamAMG feature?
Media Platform - One of the products I use most to apply geo-targeting and rights control to implement broadcasting restrictions.
What does the future of OTT look like?
I think the OTT landscape has not truly kicked off yet (pardon the pun).
Bringing the interactivity and personalisation elements to streaming moving forward will be key. Consumers follow sport on multiple devices and tapping into this through social media, betting, fantasy and gaming for example, will grow the industry even further.
One key trend is the aggregation of content. Cost of living has impacted people’s choices on subscribing to multiple different services so having 3/4 different packages with different providers may not appeal to the masses.
It will be interesting to see if one OTT place for all your content needs across sport, movies, news and entertainment would help solve this problem for consumers.
Thanks to Benjamin and we look forward to the next edition in March.
