At StreamAMG, our team is at the heart of everything we do. Each team member brings unique expertise and passion, allowing us to stay at the forefront of direct-to-fan solutions for sports rightsholders. Today, we’re excited to introduce Benjamin Pearson our Product Manager for Monetisation & Payments. Through this Q&A, get a glimpse into their day-to-day, professional highlights, and what excites them most about the future of streaming.
A Day in the Life of a Product Manager
What is the day-to-day of your role like?
My role is a balance of two key priorities. On one side, I collaborate closely with our clients, helping them unlock new opportunities for growth. This often involves simplifying our offerings to meet their needs and identifying avenues to maximise revenues. On the other side, I manage our payment platform. This includes overseeing integrations, scoping projects, MVPs, working with clients on features, and most importantly, understanding their pain points. Essentially, it’s all about building better solutions for our clients while addressing their core challenges.
Professional Highlights
What has been your favourite project at StreamAMG?
It has to be my very first project – National League. I had written my university dissertation on why National League should adopt a direct-to-consumer (D2C) streaming model. To build that service when I joined StreamAMG was incredibly fulfilling. It was a full-circle moment.
How did you get started in this industry?
Honestly, I fell into it. At university, I worked on a project comparing streaming versus traditional broadcasting. That sparked my passion for sports tech. From there, I knew this was the right space for me.
Working at StreamAMG
Describe StreamAMG in three words.
Innovative, collaborative, reliable.
What’s your favourite part of working at StreamAMG?
Without a doubt, the people I work with. It’s a highly collaborative environment, and I always know where I stand with my team, which I value so much. On top of this, working with major sporting clients to build technology that powers their engagement strategies is incredibly rewarding. Being both a professional in this space and a passionate sports fan makes it all the more exciting!
If you could switch jobs with anyone at StreamAMG for a day, who would it be and why?
Probably someone on the new business team. A lot of my focus is on supporting existing clients, so it would be interesting to see things from a different perspective – showcasing our solutions to potential clients would be a great learning opportunity.
Behind-the-Scenes
What’s your favourite sports team, and how did you become a fan?
Leeds United – my dad made sure I didn’t know there were any other teams! I’ve been a Leeds fan for as long as I can remember and held a season ticket since I was six years old.
If you could have dinner with any athlete, past or present, who would it be?
Tiger Woods. To me, he is golf. He’s someone who revolutionised an entire sport – not just with his extraordinary talent but through his influence on its popularity. I’d be fascinated to hear his stories.
If you could stream one sporting event live from anywhere in the world, which would it be and why?
The Super Bowl. It’s not just a game; it’s an entire cultural event. What they’ve achieved in terms of creating such a globally recognised phenomenon is remarkable.
Which sports moment gives you goosebumps every time you see it?
Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League in the 2020/21 season, under Bielsa. Specifically, Pablo Hernandez’s late winner against Swansea during the pandemic. That was the goal that made it feel real – like, “yes, this is finally happening!” The commentary, the team’s reaction, everything about it still gives me chills!
Looking Ahead
What excites you most about the future of streaming?
The pace of innovation. Streaming technology keeps getting better and better, and being part of a team that drives this progress is incredibly exciting. For me, the excitement lies in constantly identifying new opportunities to innovate, adapt to client needs, and help shape the future of the industry.
