At StreamAMG, our team is at the heart of everything we do. Each team member brings unique expertise and passion, allowing us to stay at the forefront of direct-to-fan solutions for sports rightsholders. Today, we’re excited to introduce Gemma Disney our Senior Product Manager. Through this Q&A, get a glimpse into their day-to-day, professional highlights, and what excites them most about the future of streaming.

A Day in the Life of a Senior Product Manager

What is the day-to-day of your role like?

As a Senior Product Manager, I bridge the gap between technology, design, and client strategy. This means overseeing our front-end OTT product and content management system (CMS) while engaging daily with cross-functional teams. I collaborate closely with engineers, product designers, customer success managers, operations teams, and clients to ensure that our products meet user needs and exceed standards.

Professional Highlights

What has been your favourite project at StreamAMG?

Leading the redesign of our enterprise streaming interface has undoubtedly been my favourite project. Not only did it improve usability and performance for end-users, but it also enhanced functionality for editors who manage content. This project gave me the opportunity to strongly advocate for accessibility and performance standards, ensuring our platforms remain cutting-edge.

How did you get started in this industry?

I've always been passionate about sports. At school, I was sports captain, and I continued playing rugby at university. Combining my love for sports with my interest in technology felt like a natural career path. After university, I started in IT security, which taught me about processes and setting standards. This experience laid a solid foundation for my transition into digital innovation within the sports industry, where I now thrive in creating technology solutions that elevate fan experiences.

Working at StreamAMG

Describe StreamAMG in three words?

Innovative. Collaborative. Impactful.

What’s your favourite part of working at StreamAMG?

It has to be the people. My teammates are incredibly supportive and passionate about what we do, creating an inspiring work environment. On top of that, I enjoy working on products in an industry that plays to my strengths, enhancing fan experiences through technology. The joy sports bring to audiences is unmatched and using tech to amplify that is amazing.

If you could switch jobs with anyone at StreamAMG for a day, who would it be and why?

I’d love to switch roles with one of our data analysts. We’re surrounded by data every day, and being able to dig deeper into user insights would be a fascinating experience. Understanding how people interact with our products and uncovering patterns could help inform even more impactful product decisions.

Behind-the-Scenes

What’s your favourite sports team, and how did you become a fan?

Liverpool FC. I became a fan in the ’90s when my friends and family supported them, even though Manchester United were dominating at the time. Supporting Liverpool has been part of my life ever since, and my fiancée is a fan too!

If you could have dinner with any athlete, past or present, who would it be?

Jurgen Klopp. Not only is he an exceptional leader, but the resilience he’s built within his teams is remarkable. He’s achieved so much without the financial clout of other clubs, which speaks volumes about his leadership, empathy, and ability to create high-performing teams. Plus, I hear he enjoys a good beer!

If you could stream one sporting event live from anywhere in the world, which would it be and why?

The 2005 Champions League final. It was such an iconic moment in football history, and I still vividly remember Xabi Alonso’s face as he approached the penalty and scored off the rebound. Liverpool were the underdogs, and their incredible teamwork made the victory even more special.

Which sports moment gives you goosebumps every time you see it?

Jonny Wilkinson’s drop goal in the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final. I still remember exactly where I was, huddled around a tiny screen with friends during a birthday celebration. That moment is unforgettable!

Looking Ahead

What excites you most about the future of streaming?

It has to be the advancements in AI and 5G. AI is already transforming how we personalise content, tailoring recommendations to resonate with individual viewers. It also introduces new opportunities for monetisation and fan engagement.

Improvements in internet and ultra-low latency streaming will become the standard, enabling near real-time experiences. These technologies are opening new possibilities, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they continue to evolve and shape the industry.
